Announcement of Chapter Business Meeting to Vote on Amendments to Chapter Bylaws

The MS “Magnolia” Chapter of SWANA will hold a Chapter Business Meeting on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at 10:00am during the Spring Conference being held at the Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast (Cypress Room B, 711 Hollywood Blvd, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi 39520). The purpose of the meeting will be for the membership to vote on proposed amendments to the Chapter Bylaws that incorporate changes resulting from the new national SWANA governance structure. At its Mid-Year Meeting in March, the International Board approved moving forward with restructuring SWANA’s governance in an effort that would increase the number of SWANA regions to 13 from 5 and give each region a seat on a new, smaller Board of Directors. The new structure is intended to:

• provide Chapters and Regions with increased representation on a new Board of Directors
• strengthen communications with more focus on the relationship between the international organization, regions, and Chapters
• continue to involve all the Chapters and other specialty member groups in the international organization through the establishment of an Advisory Board which will participate in three standing committees (Finance, Policy and Planning/Membership); and
• establish more opportunities for development of future leadership positions in the organization through establishment of Regional Director Deputies, Committee Chairs, Vice Committee Chair assignments and the Advisory Board.

Chapter members are being asked to review the Final Draft and Mark-up Draft copies of the MS Chapter Bylaws and attend the Chapter Business Meeting, if possible, to cast your vote during the meeting. Feel free to Contact Us with any questions.
